For the Win: Golfer Paige Spiranac 'still in disbelief' over appearance in SI Swimsuit edition
Golfer Paige Spiranac remembers when she looked to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition for confidence when she wasn’t feeling much in herself.
“Growing up I guess I wasn’t the most attractive or I didn’t have the body I felt most comfortable in and I didn’t really have that confidence and so I would look at these women and think how beautiful they are and how diverse their beauty is and how confident they seem,” she said. “And when I watched their interviews, they were just really cool girls that you would want to hang out with. So I would look at them all the time and just aspire to be them.”
Spiranac, a professional golfer and social media star, will now get her own chance to be one of those women. She’s in this year’s edition of the magazine and hopes to use her appearance as a chance to continue to spread her message of stopping cyberbullying.
“I am still in disbelief,” she said of being in the magazine. “It’s funny because when I first got the call and leading up to the shoot and even now I keep telling my sister, ‘it’s not going to happen, they’re just messing with me.’ It’s such an honor and I still can’t believe it. I have to pinch myself. It’s something I’ve always dreamt of — I’ve been a fan of SI Swimsuit for as long as I can remember and they embody everything I want to be as a woman so to be put alongside these incredible women who are so empowering it is truly an honor.”
